Everybody in West Indies are champions: Darren Sammy

Kolkata, Apr 3 (IBNS) Speaking in the post match presentation after winning the ICC World T20 title for the second time in his career, West Indies captain Darren Sammy said that he had immense faith in his team and hailed them as champions.

"Everybody in the West Indies are champions," Sammy said.

"I said before that we have 15 match winners in the side," he said.

"We started our journey. We were wondering if we would be part of this tournament. A lot of things were happening. We were disrespected by our board. To come out and play this sort of cricket in front of passionate fans was amazing. The trouble our manager got into to get us into this uniform was just beyond words," Sammy said.

Dedicating the win to his countrymen, the West Indies skipper said, "This win is for the people in the Caribbean."

Eoin Morgan, whose team came out second best on the big day, said, "West Indies played better than us."

"We didn't have enough runs on the board. It was a really good batting surface and we should have had 180-190 on the board," Morgan said.

"I am so proud of everybody in the squad. They showed enough character to get to this stage. We truly believe that this is only the start of something special," Morgan said.
