Entire South African contingent tests negative: CSA

Capte Town/UNI:   The entire South African contingent has tested negative for COVID-19 in the fresh tests conducted last evening, Cricket South Africa said in a statement on Saturday.

South Africa's three-match ODI series against England was due to begin in Cape Town on Friday when it emerged that one player from the home team returning a positive test in the last round tests conducted in the bio-bubble, leading to the postponement of the series opener to December 7, Sunday.

The fresh tests however have proven to be helpful in getting on with the series.

"Cricket South Africa is pleased to announce that the entire Proteas team has returned negative results from the COVID-19 tests that were conducted last evening in Cape Town," the release stated.

Earlier, there had been doubts raised about the feasibility of the series going ahead. South Africa's team doctor had expressed his surprise at the case cropping up despite the presence of bio bubbles. England, who were on their way to the ground, turned around after news of the positive test and subsequently raised concerns about faults in the bio-bubble.

The rescheduled series opener will be played on Sunday at Boland Park.
