Defending champion Maria Sharapova crash out of French Open

Paris, June 1 (IBNS): Maria Sharapova's dream of clinching French Open title was shattered on Monday as the Russian crashed out of the tournament after being defeated by Lucie Safarova here.

In the round 4 clash of the women's singles title, Sharapova was defeated by 7-6 6-4.

Sharapova is the current champion of the title.

She had won it in 2012 and 2014.
It is the first time since 2010 when Sharapova crashed out of the tournament early.

She was beaten in the third round of the tournament in  2010.
