CWG: Chanambam Rishikanta Singh wins silver in men's 60 kg weightlifting

India's wait for a CWG gold medal was prolonged after Chanambam Rishikanta Singh settled for the second position in the men's 60kg weightlifting on Sunday.

The top spot in the podium was reached by Malaysia's Mohamad Aniq Bin Kasdan, who was one of the top contenders for the gold.

Both athletes set CWG records by lifting a maximum of 121kg in the snatch category. However,  Kasdan produced a better performance in comparison to Rishikanta in the clean and jerk, setting the difference in the result.

Kasdan broke the Games record by lifting 152 kg while the Indian player managed to lift only  a best clean & jerk attempt of 143kg.

The third spot went to Kenya's Joshua Amunga Mboya who lifted a total score of 260kg.

Sports Authority of India described the Indian athlete's win as a 'proud moment'.

SAI wrote on X: " Another proud moment for India at the Commonwealth Games 2026! Rishikanta Singh Chanambam clinched the Silver Medal in Weightlifting with a total lift of 264 kg, setting a Commonwealth Games record and achieving a personal best of 121 kg in Snatch. Congratulations, Champion!"
