Paris/IBNS: Renowned global singer Celine Dion surprised all with her comeback live performance at the opening ceremony of Olympics 2024 in Paris, capping an ambitious outdoor event that was inclusive and spectacular combining the city of love's iconic spots like Eiffel Tower and Siene riverbank as stage.

The Grammy Award-winning Canadian singer wrapped up the opening ceremony with her emotional performance of Hymn to Love. The performance at the deck of Eiffel Tower was Dion's first live performance for four years. A year and a half ago she diagnosed of Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS).

She had joined pop stars Lady Gaga, Aya Nakamura who performed at the opening ceremony.

"As the torch was lit and floated into the sky, Dion, dressed in a glittering, bead-adorned dress, performed on the base of the Eiffel Tower, giving a powerful rendition of Edith Piaf’s “Hymne A L’Amour," wrote Variety.

According to Vogue, she wore a white silk georgette floor-length dress dripping in shimmering beads and sequins, complete with a mock-neck and a sweeping train. The dress was made over 1,000 hours by members of the Atelier, reported Vogue.

Dion's pearl outfit was designed by Dior.

"When we called Celine Dion one year ago she said yes straight away," Paris organizing committee's director of design and costume for ceremonies, Daphné Bürki said as quoted by ken5.com.

The opening ceremony of the Olympic Games began with the 'Parade of the Nations' in which athletes from 205 countries sailed down the iconic Seine river on boats, marking a dreamy break from tradition despite rain threatening to play spoilsport.

French President Emmanuel Macron and International Olympic Committee head Thomas Bach were in attendance as French football legend Zinedine Zidane was shown sprinting down the streets of Paris with the Olympic flame in a pre-recorded video.

More than 10,000 athletes made their appearances on about 100 boats along River Seine, passing by iconic Parisian landmarks, including Notre Dame, Pont des Arts, and Pont Neuf, while the floating parade departed from the Austerlitz bridge beside the Jardin des Plantes and ended at the Trocadéro.

Several iconic performances dazzled the opening ceremony with one of them being performed by 80 artists from the Moulin Rouge whose dance dates back to the 1820s.
