Calcutta Rowing Club and Bengal Rowing Club emerged champions in 1st state indoor rowinbg meet

Kolkata: Calcutta Rowing Club (CRC) and Bengal Rowing Club (BRC) dominated the show emerging champions in the Men and Women sections respectively in the inagural West Bengal State Indoor Rowibng Championship which concluded at Lake Club here Sunday.

Indoor rowing is a simulated version of rowing which is held  indoor.

Secretary of  West Bengal Rowing Association Aniruddha Mookerjee, the organisor of the meet, informed that inspite of ongoing Covid situation, thirty eight men and women took part in this championship which was held in different weight categories and distance as a state meet for the first time.

He said the oraganisors took all necessary Covid safety measures during the two-day meet which began on Jan 31.

The men section saw CRC bagging the team title claiming four golds, one silver and a bronze.

Though Prateek Gupta of BRC  put up a fine show by winning both 500 metre and 1000 metre events in heavy weighht category, they had to be contended with runners up position with two golds, three silvers and two bronzes.

Lake Club took the third spot with one gold, one silver and two bronzes.

BRC however, stole the limelight in the women category where they earned five golds, a silver and a bronze.

Lake Club finished runners up in this section earning two golds and three bronzes while CRC  managed to get one silver and a couple of bronzes.

The Kolkata Police, the fourth team in this competition, could not earn any medal.
