Bangladesh surprised Sri Lanka by registering a two-wicket victory in a Group D match of the men's T20 World Cup 2024 at the Grand Prairie Stadium here on Saturday.

The ongoing edition of the tournament has already registered major upsets with the USA beating Pakistan and even Afghanistan winning against New Zealand.

Sri Lanka, looking to bounce back from their opening defeat against South Africa, were left stunned as they struggled to post 125 runs on the board.

Bangladesh's senior batsman Mahamudullah showed incredible composure to take his team past the finish line, showcasing nerves of steel in the face of adversity.

The Bangladeshi bowlers were absolutely clinical, with leg-spinner Rishad Hossain and pacer Mustafizur Rahman leading the charge. Mustafizur, who had already made headlines with a six-wicket haul against the USA earlier in the tournament, took three wickets and conceded just 17 runs in his four-over spell. Rishad also picked up three wickets in a miserly spell of 22 runs in four overs.

Young star Towhid Hridoy was the star of the show with an impressive 40 off 20 balls. His innings was a testament to his skill and confidence at the highest level.

As the victory was secured, Bangladesh's players erupted in joy, hugging each other and celebrating their hard-fought win. The win is expected to send a wave of optimism through the Bangladeshi camp, as they look to build momentum and make a deeper impact in the tournament.

The victory has sent shockwaves throughout the cricket world, with fans around the globe eagerly awaiting the next exciting match. With teams like India and Australia already making their mark, it's anyone's game for glory in this year's T20 World Cup.
