ATK-Mohun Bagan beat East Bengal 1-0 in season's first derby

| @indiablooms | Aug 29, 2022, at 04:03 am

Kolkata: ATK-Mohun Bagan registered their first win in the ongoing Durand Cup getting past archrivals East Bengal 1-0, thanks to an own goal, at the packed Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan (Salt Lake Stadium) here on Sunday.

EB's Sumeet Passa, in a bid to clear a corner from Bagan's frontliner Liston Colaco, pushed a drop ball from his belly into his own goal, much to the horror of the red and gold supporters. The goal came barely seconds before the halftime whistle. .

Barring the self-goal, the play, though dominated by the Mariners, failed to rise to good standards. Poor passing, wild shots and absence of cohesion among the players marked the season's first derby, despite the huge gathering of fans of both sides.

This was the first win for the green and maroon in the current edition of the tourney. They lost the opener against Rajasthan United FC and then drew with Mumbai FC. Bagan have so far collected four points from three games.

East Bengal tasted their first defeat in the edition as they had drawn their previous two games against Rajasthan United FC and Indian Navy in Group B. East Bengal are yet to score a goal in the tourney and have picked up two points so far.
