Asia Cup: Virat Kohli's purple patch continues, India win match by 5 wickets

Dhaka, Mar 1 (IBNS) Chasing 140 runs against Sri Lanka, India won the match by five wickets riding on Virat Kohli's unbeaten half century, here on Tuesday.

Earlier Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the coin toss and decided to bowl first. India managed to restrict Sri Lanka to 139 runs and picked up 9 wickets as Pandya, Bumrah and Ashwin picked by two wickets each. Seasoned campaigned Ashish Nehera picked up a wicket as the fielders contributed in two run outs.

For Sri Lanka, Chamara Kapugedera score 30 runs, followed by 22 by Milinda Siriwardana.

Chasing the score, India lost two quick wickets as Rohit Sharma (15) and Shikhar Dhawan (1) failed to capitalise.

Kohli combined well with Suresh Raina (25) to put a 54-run partnership for the third wicket and added another 51 with Yuvraj Singh for the ensuing wicket.

Yuvraj hit some meaty blows to finish with 35 runs off 18 balls. His innings was laden with 3 fours and 3 sixes.

Nuwan Kulasekhara picked up 2 wickets for his side, followed by Perera, Herath and Shanaka, who picked up a wicket each.

Virat Kohli was adjudged the Man of the Match for his unbeaten 56 runs.
