AIFF Kalyani Academy boys practice at Barasat Stadium

| | May 22, 2014, at 07:59 pm
Barasat, May 22 (IBNS): The All India Football Federation's (AIFF) Kalyani Regional Academy boys had their first practice session under the lights at the Barasat Stadium on Wednesday evening.
The Kalyani Academy boys take on Frenz United Indonesia in their first home-match of the Asia Champions Trophy 2014 at the stadium on Saturday (May 24).

The kick-off of the match is at 6.35 pm and it will be telecast live on DD Sports.

Head Coach Goutam Ghosh insisted on practicing under the lights to have a feel of the home atmosphere which he believed “will help the boys.”

“We need to make the boys get used to the conditions. They have already had a feel of the turf and have acclimatised themselves after our practice sessions. But it was important to get them used to play under the lights,” he told www.the-aiff.com  .

“I’m thankful to the Indian Football Association for their cooperation. Our request to practice under the lights was immediately permitted,” Ghosh added.

The AIFF XI, represented by the Kalyani Regional Academy boys had gone down by a solitary goal to Frenz United, Malaysia, A, in their first Match of the Tournament.

On the other hand Frenz United Indonesia went down to PVF Vietnam by a brace.

“It’s an important Match for us. Frenz United Indonesia are a strong Team and after having lost the first one, they are bound to come hard at us,” Ghosh stated. “We need to be cautious and confident at the same time,” Ghosh said.

He noted, "Our first match was a learning experience for our boys. They are playing in such a format for the first time and the fact that we created three open chances speaks volumes about our young guns."

"We need to capitalise on such opportunities. Unless we do that, we will have to repent which is never our intention,” Ghosh further said.

The visiting team will land at the Kolkata Airport on Friday (May 23).
