80th ARAE-FEARA Regatta inaugurated in Kolkata's Lake Club

Kolkata/IBNS: The 80th ARAE-FEARA Regatta Championship got of to a fine start with Vice President of  Asian Rowing Federation, Rear Admiral Praparnpongs Pochanasamburana from Thailand declaring the meet open in presence of Lake Club president Tamal Mukherjee, President of West Bengal Rowing Association Subhasish Dasgupta, President of Jury of the meet Sanjerv Gupta and about three hundred oars persons of different age groups at the Lake Club complex on Monday afternoon.

Speaking on the occasion Rear Admiral Pochanasamburana congratulated the participants for joining this championship as it would develop camaraderie, amity and friendship among the oars persons of different Rowing clubs in different countries.

While the main events of the Championship would begin on a 500-metre course on adjacent Rabindra Sarobar lake from Tuesday (March 19), an indoor version of the event started this afternoon.

During the inaugural event, the participants and officials were entertained with a Dragon Dance performed by an east Kolkata-based NGO.

Besides a club each from Australia and Thailand, teams from College of Engineering Pune, Madras Boat Club from Chennai and Calcutta Rowing Club, Bengal Rowing Club and the host, Lake Club — all from Kolkata — are taking part in this popular event. The finals of the championship will be held on Saturday (March 23).
