Tollyugunge Club Invitational Bridge: Bangur Cement bags team event
Kolkata, Sept 16 (IBNS): Displaying all round superiority overnight leader Bangur Cement, comprised of Debashish Ray, Kamal Mukherjee,Suman Sengupta, S K Iyenger and Uttam Gupta, won the sixth Tollyugunge Club Invitational Bridge Tournament here on Sunday.
The team earned a total of 93.87 Victory Points (VPs) on the concluding day of the three-day championship.
The title for the Pairs event went to R P Tripathy- Ravi Saberwal duo, who amassed 567.21 Match Points (MPs).
In the super league of this prestigious event , Bangur Cement started from where they left last evening and began promisingly.
They continued to collect more points than their rivals except in third round of the super league where they had a little hiccup against Magnum.
But from fourth round onwards they steadied their performance again and went on to get more points in their kitty and finally emerged as the Champions of the meet.
In the final result of team event Sarthak with 86.35 VPs became runners up with 86.35 VPS and were followed by Constellation (84.89 VPs), Tolly Bridge Mates (78.03 VPs), Shree Cement 63.58 VPs, D K S ( 59.78 VPs), Magnum ( 58.42 VPs) and Spartan ( 31.08 VPs).
Commenting on their fine success captain of team Bangur Cement ad former international Debashish Ray said “ We are indeed very happy to win the title of the team events as the competition here was of quite high standard . The championship was also very keenly contested”.
A total of 46 teams took part in the Pairs event where RajneeshGosain and A K Banerjee finished runners up.
Others in the top ten finishers in the Pairs event are P K Sinha-Alok Daga ( 547.50 ( MPs), Devendranath – P Faria (526.71 MPs), Vergheese Jacob – Ajoy Deshpande ( 526.60 MPs) , A K Bose – B Mukherjee ( 520.19), S Halder – P K Roy Chowdhury ( 509.40 MPs), L M Gupta & A V Sadasiva ( 502.79 MPs), Ranjan Bhattacharya- Richa Sriram ( 501.29 MPs), R C Punshi- S K Anand ( 501 MPs).
