FIFA World Cup: Russia trounce Saudi Arabia in opening match
Moscow, Jun 15 (IBNS): Playing the opening fixture of the FIFA World Cup 2018 in front of the home crowd, host Russia trounced Saudi Arabia 5-0 at the Luzhniki Stadium here on Thursday.
The five goals were scored by Yury Gazinsky (12'), Denis Cheryshev (43', 90+1'), Artem Dzyuba (71') and Aleksandr Golovin (90+4').
Russia recorded the second biggest victory as a host nation after Italy.
Italy, a four-time world champions, had defeated the US in 1934 by 7-1.
