New Delhi, Jan 11 (IBNS): Indian skipper Virat Kohli joined the cricket world in wishing former Indian captain Rahul Dravid on his birthday on Wednesday.

Dravid turned 44.

Kohli tweeted: "Happy Birthday Rahul Bhai. Thank you for your encouragement & for being a great role model for all the budding cricketers out there ."

Former Indian batsman Virender Sehwag said: "He played in the V. But was the biggest C. Commitment, Class,Consistency,Care. Proud to have played together.Happy Birthday #RahulDravid."

Cricketer Mohammad Kaif tweeted: "Happy Birthday #RahulDravid . One of the most selfless, likeable human being ever and the biggest reason to love the name 'Rahul'."

Union Sports Minister Vijay Goel posted: "True gentleman & GREAT WALL of #Indian #cricket Wishing #RahulDravid a very Happy Birthday. DID YOU KNOW once he took 2 wickets in 2 balls!"

Former international cricketer and a sporting icon, Rahul Dravid turned 44 on Wednesday.

Dravid was born in 1973.

He made both his Test and ODI debut in 1996.

Dravid scored 95 in his debut Test match batting opposite fellow debutant Sourav Ganguly, another legend of the game.

In a career spanning spanning 16 years, the Karnataka batsman scored 48 centuries, including 36 in Test matches.

Dravid also holds the world record (210) for the maximum number of catches taken by a regular fielder, other than the wicket-keeper, in Test cricket.

Nicknamed The Wall, he stood out for his rock solid temperament and was the cornerstone of Indian batting for a decade, before he hung his boots.

Along with Sachin Tendulkar, Saurav Ganguly, Anil Kumble and VVS Laxman, Dravid formed the 'Fav 5' of Indian cricket, a group of individuals who dominated the sporting circle for a number of years. .

Post his retirement from competitive cricket, Rahul Dravid has taking up coaching and is the present coach of the Indian U-19 team.

Under his wing, the boys have been to the final of the ICC U-19 World Cup, where they lost to West Indies in a thrilling contest, but own the recently concluded Asia Cup, defeating Sri Lanka at their own backyard.
