Indian Railways emerge champions in World Railways TT Championship

Kolkata, Oct 26 (IBNS): Indian Railways Table Tennis team bagged Gold Medal in both Men’s & Women’s section in the World Railways Table Tennis Championship.


The Championship of 2016 was held at Berlin, Germany from Oct 17 to 22, 2016. 

Altogether 19 teams participated in the Men’s section and 12 teams in the Women’s section.

The Indian Railways Men’s Team was represented by Anirban Nandi (South Eastern Railway), Ravindra Kotiyan(Western Railway), Pankaj Vishwakarma (Western Railway) & E.Prabakaran(Southern Railway).

The Indian Railways Women’s Team was represented by Anindita Chakraborty (South Eastern Railway), Shreya Ghosh (Metro Railway) & Takeme Sarkar (Northeast Frontier Railway).

In the Individual Event, the Men’s Singles Title was bagged by Anirban Nandi while the Women’s Singles Title was bagged by Anindita Chakraborty. Both the players who won the Singles Title representing Indian Railways are the employees of South Eastern Railway.

Moreover, Anirban Nandi and E. Prabakaran won Gold Medal in Men’s Doubles while Anindita Chakraborty and Shreya Ghosh won Gold Medal in Women’s Doubles.

The Mixed Doubles Gold Medal was bagged by Anirban Nandi and Shreya Ghosh.

A.K.Goel, General Manager, South Eastern Railway felicitated   both Anirban Nandi & Anindita Chakraborty at a function held at S E Railway Headquarters, Garden Reach on their return on  Thursday (25.10.16) for their outstanding performance in World Railways Table Tennis Championships.
