Nottingham, Aug 31 (IBNS): England batsman Alex Hales smashed 171 runs as the home sideset a world record for an innings in one-day international cricket by posting 444 runs for the loss of three wickets against Pakistan in the third ODI here on Tuesday.
Joe Root (85), Jos Buttler (90) and Eoin Morgan (57) made crucial contributions with their bats.
It was Hales, who smashed 22 fours and four sixes to make the innings memorable for fans.
Earlier, it was Sri Lanka, who had posted the highest score of 443/9 against the Netherlands, in 2006.
