Pele to visit Eden Gardens during his stay in Kolkata
Kolkata, Sept 29 (IBNS) Football legend Pele, who will be arriving in Kolkata after a gap of 38 years next month, will be visiting Eden Gardens stadium where he had displayed his skills in front of a huge crowd of football lovers in 1977.
The 74-year-old will attend Legend's Night event at the Netaji Indoor Stadium on Oct 12, organizers of the event said on Tuesday.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, ex-Indian cricket team skipper Sourav Ganguly and the players of Mohun Bagan team that had played against Pele's New York Cosmos in 1977 will be present at the event.
CAB treasurer Biswarup Dey told reporters: "We want to honour the legend at Eden Gardens where he had played in 1977."
Subrata Bhattacharya, who played against Pele in the match, said: "Pele's match was completely different from others. He was a legend.Playing well against Pele had inspired us to perform well in the rest of the season."
In a video message shown during the announcement, Pele is seen saying that he is looking forward to visit the city at the time of Durga Puja.
Pele will also meet ISL side Atletico de Kolkata on Oct 13 and will attend as the guest of honour during the team's first home match in the second season of the football tournament against Kerala Blasters at Salt Lake Stadium.
Multicon Group and NSHM Knowledge Campus are bring the football star to Kolkata.
Pele will also have a stopover in Delhi to attend the 56th edition of the Subroto Cup final as a special ambassador.
