Indian PM Narendra Modi on Sunday called up shooter Manu Bhaker for winning the bronze medal in the women's 10 m air pistol at the Paris Olympics 2024 and said she made the country proud with her performance in the shooting arena.

Speaking to Manu Bhaker following her triumph in the mega sporting event, Modi said: "Manu, I wan t to congratulate you for your success."

"You made the country proud despite missing the silver medal only by 0.1 points," he said.

Modi mentioned in her conversation that Manu Bhaker became the first Indian woman to win a medal in the Olympics.

"I am hopeful you will put up a strong performance in all other categories," Modi said.

He asked whether the sportsmen are getting all the facilities in Paris.

Manu Bhaker secured India's first medal at the Paris Olympics 2024, winning bronze in the Women's 10m Air Pistol final at the Chatearoux Shooting Center.

The medal came after a 12-year drought since Gagan Narang won a bronze, India’s last medal in shooting at the 2012 London Olympics.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier wrote on X to congratulate Manu on the momentous win.

He wrote: "A historic medal! Well done, @realmanubhaker, for winning India’s FIRST medal at #ParisOlympics2024! Congrats for the Bronze. This success is even more special as she becomes the 1st woman to win a medal in shooting for India. An incredible achievement! Bhaker began strongly in the first series, scoring 50.2 from her five shots, propelling her to second place, just behind South Korea's Ye Jin Oh, who led with an impressive 52.2."
