Mumbai/IBNS: The fiery Indian pace battery continued its dream run in the Cricket World Cup 2023 bowling out Sri Lanka for just 55 in a match which they won by mammoth 302 runs at the Wankhede Stadium here on Thursday.

Chasing 358, Sri Lanka were reduced to 3/4 at one stage and then 14/6 unable to cope with pace bowlers Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami.

The early onslaught was brought by Bumrah (1/8) and Siraj (3/16) who were later joined by Shami, who took five wickets for the second time in a match this World Cup.

Shami, who took a fifer against New Zealand, on Thursday clinched five wickets conceding just 18 runs in five overs.

Prior to the bowling supremacy, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer dominated the match in the afternoon powering India to score 357/8 in 50 overs.

After skipper Rohit Sharma was dismissed in the very second ball of the match, Gill and Kohli stitched a 189-run partnership counter-attacking Sri Lanka.

After Gill (92) and Kohli (88) missed their centuries, Shreyas Iyer (82 off just 56 balls) went with all guns blazing in his mission to post a big total on the scoreboard.

Allrounder Ravindra Jadeja (35 off 24 balls) made a significant contribution in helping India cross the 350-mark hours before the bowlers stole the limelight.

India, the only team yet to be defeated in the tournament, regained the top spot of the points table with seven wins in as many matches, sealing a semifinal berth.
