Mumbai: Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar on Sunday turned 49 as his fans and cricketing fraternity wished him on the special day.

BCCI tweeted: "Here's wishing the ever-so-inspirational & legendary @sachin_rt a very happy birthday."

ICC posted: "Sachin Tendulkar was the highest run-scorer for India in their 2011 @cricketworldcup  winning campaign. On his birthday, watch his stunning 120 against England from the tournament."

During his illustrious career, Sachin was a part of Indian team in six World Cups including the 2011 World Cup-winning squad, which was his last world cup appearance.

In 2013, the batting great announced his retirement from international cricket.

He marked his India debut during a Test match against Pakistan on November 15, 1989 at the age of 16.

He also made his ODI debut the same year on December 18. Sachin is the recipient of Arjuna Award, Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award, Padma Shri, Padma Vibhushan and the Bharat Ratna, highest civilian honour award.

In 2019, he was also inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame.
