Wimbledon/IBNS: Ashleigh Barty won her maiden Wimbledon title beating Karolina Pliskova 6-3, 6-7 (4/7), 6-3 on Saturday.

Her victory coincides with the 50th anniversary of fellow indigenous Australian Evonne Goolagong Cawley's maiden crown.

Barty, 25, wore a specially-designed dress in tribute to Cawley's iconic scallop one she sported in 1971, stated an AFP report.

The Wimbledon crown is an addition to her 2019 French Open title.

"I hope I made Evonne proud," said Barty.

Today's final was the first women's Wimbledon final to stretch through three sets since 2012 when Serena Williams demolished Poland's Agnieszka Radwanska.

Barty seemed to sail through the match at first, winning the first 14 points after registering a lead of 4-0.

However, her opponent Pliskova found her ground and took advantage whenever Barty faltered, especially while serving for the match in the second set and the Czech took it to the decider set.

After one or two mistakes, Barty finally grabbed her maiden Wimbledon title.
