Veteran Bopanna and Japan’s Ben McLachlan had also crashed out of the men’s doubles event after a 4-6 6-7 (0) defeat to the Korean pair of Ji Sung Nam and Min-Kyu Song in an opening-round match.

Earlier, Sumit Nagal had exited the men’s singles while Divij Sharan crashed out of the men’s doubles, both in their respective opening rounds.

In women’s doubles, too, Ankita Raina had failed to get past the first hurdle at her debut Grand Slam.
