Melbourne/IBNS: Indian cricket's regular captain Virat Kohli, who is missing in action for personal reasons, has expressed his happiness over Ajinkya Rahane-led India's convincing victory over Australia in the second Test match in Melbourne.

Kohli tweeted, "What a win this is, absolutely amazing effort by the whole team. Couldn't be happier for the boys and specially Jinks who led the team to victory amazingly. Onwards and upwards from here."

India defeated Australia by eight wickets to win the second Test match to level the series 1-1 here on Tuesday.

After bowling out Australia for 200 runs, India needed 70 runs for victory.

However, India started their second innings with two quick jolts as the visitors lost the wickets of Mayank Agarwal (5) and Cheteshwar Pujara (3).

Shubman Gill remained 35 not out and skipper Ajinkya Rahane added 27 runs as they guided India to victory without any further troubles.

Rahane's leadership abilities have been appreciated by fans and ex-cricketers as he guided India to victory in the second Test after a disappointing show in the opening match.

India were bowled out for 36 runs in the second innings of the Pink Ball Test which forced the visitors to suffer a massive defeat.
