Young players must be given consistent opportunities: Sourav Ganguly advises Virat Kohli-led Team India

Kolkata: In a virtual advice for Virat Kohli-led Indian cricket team, former skipper Sourav Ganguly said the young talents must be given "consistent opportunities".

Ganguly, who often praises Kohli for his batting skill, made the comment in a column for The Times of India just after the present Indian skipper said a player can get five matches to prove themselves.

"Before the last (ODI) World Cup, there was too much noise about it and that sometimes is not good. What they (Team India) need to do is pick the best possible players and give them consistent opportunities, as there is some serious talent in the domestic circuit," said Ganguly as reported by the TOI.

The famous southpaw, who had picked a host of young players being the captain in early 2000, felt batsmen must be given chances to freely express themselves on field.

Weeks ago, Ganguly had accused the Indian selectors of picking squads to satisfy all players.

"Time has come for indian selectors to pick same players in all formats of the game for rhythm and confidence.. too few are playing in all formats ..great teams had consistent players ..it’s not about making all happy but picking the best for the country and be consistent.. @bcci" Ganguly had tweeted.

"There are many in the squad who can play all formats ..surprised not to see shubman gill ..Rahane in the one day squad.." the skipper had added.
