Kolkata, July 8 (UNI): Mohun Bagan and East Bengal are among the six top clubs of the country that today sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi's intervention against alleged victimisation by the All India Football Federation (AIFF) saying India's supreme football body was trying to ruin the sport as well as top tier tournament Indian League (IL).

The six clubs are East Bengal, Mohun Bagan, Minerva Punjab, Aizawl FC, Gokulam Kerala and Churchill Brothers, have written to the PM on Monday about the ongoing issue between them and the AIFF, India's football regulating body.

The five-page letter, singed by Mohun Bagan Club's managing director Swapan Sadhan Bose said the sport though has huge followers across India but its existing infrastructure and administration was sheer lacking under the set up of AIFF.

Besides the letter expressed concerned that the AIFF, along with its commercial partners FSDL, might promote the Indian Super League (ISL) as the main league of country and simultaneously demote the I-League, which is currently India's top tier football league.

The letter pointed out the legacy of the I-League and how making a closed league like ISL the top division could hamper the progress of Indian football.
