Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul score centuries as India beat Sri Lanka by seven wickets in World Cup clash

Leeds, July 6 (IBNS): Rohit Sharma continued his top form and scored another century in the ongoing World Cup as India defeated Sri Lanka by seven wickets in a crucial group stage match of the showpiece tournament here on Saturday.

The match assumes significance as it will decide whom will India face in the final.

Riding on Angelo Mathews 113 runs knock, Sri Lanka posted 264 runs for the loss of seven wickets and then Rohit Sharma (103) and and KL Rahul (111) joined to give India a strong start as they led the foundation which helped the Asian side in reaching 265 runs by losing just three wickets.

On his way to score his fifth century in the tournament, Sharma hammered 14 boundaries and two sixes.

Rahul looked matured and dependable in his 111 runs knock. He smashed 11 boundaries and six.

Virat Kohli contributed 34 runs with his willow.

India won the match in 43.3 overs.

Lasith Malinga, Udana and Rajitha picked up a wicket each.

Earlier, Sri Lanka were once reduced to 55 for the loss of four wickets.

However, Angelo (113) and Lahiru Thirimanne (53) joined to score 124 runs to bring out Sri Lanka from the situation.

Silva contributed 29 runs at the end.

Mathews looked bold and determined in his heroic knock that was much needed for his side on a day when Indian bowlers dominated the first half.

Indian pace bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah delivered once against and picked up three wickets.
