Bengaluru/IBNS: Yash-starrer upcoming Kannada film Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups has landed in legal trouble over alleged obscenity and sexually explicit content shown in its teaser, media reports said.

The teaser sparked controversy after a brief intimate scene set inside a parked car near a graveyard was flagged by sections of social media users and political groups as obscene and objectifying.

Social activist Dinesh Kallahalli has filed a complaint with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), alleging that the teaser contains “obscene, sexually explicit and morally offensive scenes,” WION News reported.

“The said trailer is being widely circulated on various social media platforms without any effective restriction, thereby exposing the general public, including minors and young persons, to content that is legally impermissible and socially harmful,” Kallahalli said in his complaint, as quoted in the report.

Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Women’s Wing has approached the Karnataka State Women’s Commission, urging it to direct the state government to take down the controversial teaser.

The party said the move was aimed at protecting vulnerable sections of society and stressed that visual content must comply with cultural sensitivity and social responsibility.

In its complaint, the AAP claimed the teaser was released without any age restriction or precautionary warning, alleging that the visuals compromised women’s dignity and negatively impacted minors.

Following the complaint, the State Women’s Commission has written to the CBFC, seeking appropriate action.

The controversial moment in the Toxic teaser shows Yash seated inside a parked car with a woman against a dimly lit graveyard backdrop, creating a dark and provocative atmosphere.

The scene is suggestive rather than explicit, with the woman leaning close to the actor and the camera lingering on their proximity to imply sexual tension.

Directed by Geetu Mohandas, the action drama is set in a dark and gritty world shaped by crime, power and revenge.

The film has been shot simultaneously in Kannada and English and will also be released in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam.

Apart from Yash, the film features an ensemble cast including Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Rukmini Vasanth, Tara Sutaria and Huma Qureshi.
