Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn, other industry figures offer support to Rajpal Yadav after he surrenders in jail

Several prominent figures from the Hindi film industry, including Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn, have come forward to support actor Rajpal Yadav after he surrendered at Tihar Jail on February 5 in connection with a decade-old Rs 9-crore cheque bounce case.

Rajpal Yadav surrendered after the Delhi High Court rejected his last-minute plea seeking more time to repay dues linked to his 2010 directorial venture, Ata Pata Laapata.

Confirming the support, Rajpal Yadav’s manager Goldie told The Indian Express that multiple members of the film fraternity had reached out to offer financial assistance.

“Actors like Sonu Sood, Salman Khan, and Ajay Devgn have extended their support. I was just on a call with David Dhawan—he too reached out. Ratan Nain, Varun Dhawan… many people are coming forward to help him this time, which Rajpal has deeply appreciated,” Goldie said.

Filmmaker David Dhawan and his son Varun Dhawan have also reportedly offered help. Earlier, actor Sonu Sood, Gurmeet Chaudhary, politician Tej Pratap Yadav (national president of Jan Shakti Janata Dal), and music producer Rao Inderjeet Singh Yadav — owner of GemTunes Music — extended their support.

Rao Inderjeet Singh Yadav has offered Rs 1.1 crore to the actor.

“Let’s all help our senior actor, Rajpal Yadav Sir. Will be transferring an advance amount as feature in one of my upcoming videos. Sonu Sood paji, following what you started. Let’s all help and get him home safe,” he wrote on Instagram.

Goldie, however, clarified that while many commitments have been made, financial transactions take time.

“The good thing is that after his situation worsened, the industry has stood behind him like a rock—and that should be appreciated. Everyone has made commitments, but such transactions don’t happen overnight,” he added.

When asked whether Rajpal Yadav had sought help before surrendering, Goldie declined to comment.

According to PTI, Rajpal Yadav borrowed Rs 5 crore in 2010 from M/s Murali Projects Pvt Ltd to finance Ata Pata Laapata, which failed at the box office. Over the years, accumulated interest, penalties, and delayed payments reportedly increased the liability to nearly Rs 9 crore.

To settle the dues, the actor issued multiple cheques, which were dishonoured. This led to criminal proceedings under the Negotiable Instruments Act.

On February 2, 2026, the Delhi High Court directed Rajpal Yadav to surrender by 4 pm on February 4, observing that his conduct reflected repeated breaches of undertakings.

On February 5, he appeared before the court, with his counsel informing the bench that he was prepared to submit a demand draft of Rs 25 lakh and adhere to a revised repayment schedule.

However, the court declined to recall the surrender order, stating that compassion must be balanced with judicial discipline and that no “special circumstances” could be created for individuals from the film industry.

Later that day, Rajpal Yadav surrendered at Tihar Jail to begin serving a six-month sentence. Jail authorities confirmed that due process was followed.

Rajpal Yadav was last seen in Baby John and Interrogation. He is scheduled to appear next in Akshay Kumar’s horror-comedy Bhooth Bangla, set for release on April 10.
