Out on interim bail, Rajpal Yadav urges film fraternity to offer him roles

Actor Rajpal Yadav, who was released from Tihar Jail on Tuesday, 12 days after surrendering in connection with a Rs 9 crore cheque bounce and loan default case, has requested work.

The Delhi High Court granted him interim bail on Monday, offering temporary relief in the long-running financial dispute linked to his 2012 film Ata Pata Laapata.

Although bail was granted a day earlier, Yadav’s release was delayed due to verification and paperwork, which were completed later on Tuesday.

What did Rajpal Yadav say?

Speaking to India TV after his release, Yadav thanked fans across generations for their support.

He also acknowledged those who criticised or scrutinised his actions, as well as well-wishers who are not active on social media.

Addressing the film industry, the actor appealed for work, urging those who had supported him earlier to consider offering him meaningful roles again.

“Those who have helped me earlier, I request them to help me once again with the kind of roles I wish to do—the money can be as per their discretion,” he said.

Following the grant of interim bail, businessman Madhav Gopal Agrawal, who had extended the loan, said he met Yadav through MP Mithilesh Kumar Katheria and was told the film was nearing completion but required urgent funds.

Agrawal maintained that the amount was a loan, not an investment, and that repayment was guaranteed regardless of the film’s performance.

According to him, multiple supplementary agreements were later signed and fresh cheques issued, all of which were allegedly dishonoured.

The matter eventually led to Yadav’s surrender earlier this month. While interim bail has been granted, the case remains pending before the court.
