Mushtaq Khan dies at 56 after cancer battle; ‘Welcome’ actor’s funeral tomorrow
Actor-comedian Mushtaq Khan, best known for his memorable supporting roles in films including Welcome, Hera Pheri and Stree, has died at the age of 56 after a prolonged battle with cancer.
The actor was undergoing treatment at Mumbai's Nanavati Hospital.
His funeral is scheduled to take place on Friday.
Veteran actor Anupam Kher mourned his death in an emotional post.

Who was Mushtaq Khan?
Born in Madhya Pradesh's Balaghat district, Mushtaq Khan built a career spanning films and television, appearing in several popular Hindi movies over the years.
He was particularly remembered for playing a disabled hockey player in Anees Bazmee's Welcome (2007), alongside Akshay Kumar, Nana Patekar, Anil Kapoor and Katrina Kaif.
His filmography included several popular titles such as Aashiqui (1990), Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke (1993), Hera Pheri (2000), Jodi No. 1 (2001), Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004), Khiladi 786 (2012), Stree (2018), Badhaai Do (2022), Gadar 2 (2023), Stree 2 (2024) and Baby John (2024).
Mushtaq Khan’s kidnapping ordeal
The actor had also made headlines in November 2024 after he was reportedly kidnapped while travelling on the Delhi-Meerut highway.
According to PTI, Khan had been invited to Meerut to attend an award function but was allegedly taken to a remote location near Bijnor after arriving in Delhi.
His business partner, Shivam Yadav, had said at the time that the actor was held captive and tortured for several hours, with the kidnappers allegedly demanding a ransom of Rs 1 crore.
Khan eventually managed to escape after hearing the morning Azaan. He then sought help from local residents.

Mushtaq Khan is survived by his wife, son and daughter. His death marks the loss of a familiar supporting actor whose performances featured across several generations of Hindi cinema.
