Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar turns 85
Mumbai, Sept 28 (IBNS): Legendary singer and nightingale of India Lata Mangeshkar, whose melodious renditions have contributed largely to the Indian film industry, turned 85 years of age on Sunday.
To commemorate her birthday, Indian cricket maestro Sachin Tendulkar will felicitate her at a celebratory function, media reports said.
He will be the chief guest at the event, organised by music events organistion Hridayesh Arts at the Shanmukhananda Auditorium.
Lata Mangeshkar’s younger sister and singer Asha Bhosle will be the special guest of honour on the occasion besides other Bollywood celebrities.
Wishing her on her birthday, singer Shreya Ghosal tweeted: "My heartfelt wishes to the Nightingale of India, Lataji on her 85th birthday. Your songs inspire my life every passing day. Always grateful."
Singer Shaan tweeted: "Very Happy Birthday Lataji!!! @mangeshkarlata Aapki Aawaaz hi pehchan hai hum sab Bharat wasiyon ki.. jo koi bhula nahi paayega."
Singer Abhijeet also wished the legendary singer on Twitter.
Starting her career at the age on 13, her contribution to the Indian music industry has spanned over seven decades.
She has recorded songs for over a thousand Hindi films and has sung songs in over thirty-six regional Indian languages and foreign languages, though primarily in Marathi and Hindi.
She is the elder sister of Asha Bhosle, Usha Mangeshkar and Meena Mangeshkar.
Lata Mangeshkar has delivered some of the most memorable duets with Manna Dey, Mohammed Rafi , Kishore Kumar and Mukhesh.
She is the second vocalist to have ever been conferred the prestigious Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour.
The goddess of music, as referred in India, has featured in the Guinness Book of World Records from 1974 to 1991 for having made the most recordings in the world.
The claim was that she had recorded approximately 25,000 solo, duet, and chorus-backed songs in 20 Indian languages between 1948 to 1974.
