James Bond actor Sean Connery dies at 90

Los Angeles: Hollywood actor Sean Connery, who is fondly remembered for playing the peerless British spy James Bond from 1962 to 1983, died on Saturday, according to media reports.  He was 90.

He had appeared in seven James Bond movies.

According to BBC, Sir Sean died overnight in his sleep, while in the Bahamas.

In his illustrious career, the Scottish actor had  won an Academy Award, two BAFTA Awards (one being a BAFTA Academy Fellowship Award), and three Golden Globes, including the Cecil B. DeMille Award and a Henrietta Award. 

Connery was the first actor to portray the character James Bond in film, starring in seven Bond films, every film from Dr. No (1962) to You Only Live Twice, plus Diamonds Are Forever and Never Say Never Again).

In 1988, Connery won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in The Untouchables. He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2000.

His memorable films also include Marnie (1964), Murder on the Orient Express (1974), The Man Who Would Be King (1975), The Name of the Rose (1986), Highlander (1986), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989), The Hunt for Red October (1990), Dragonheart (1996), The Rock (1996), and Finding Forrester (2000).

The social media is buzzing with messages since the news of the actor's death shocked the world.

A verified twitter page named Sir Roger Moore (legacy) posted: "How infinitely sad to hear the news Sir Sean Connery has passed away. He and Roger were friends for many decades and Roger always maintained Sean was the best ever James Bond. RIP."

Moore had also gained fame for playing the caracter of the spy James Bond. He died in 2017.

Actor Hugh Jackman posted: "I grew up idolizing #SeanConnery. A legend on screen, and off. Rest In Peace."
