India shines at Grammys: Shakti, Zakir Hussain bag awards

India shined at the Grammys on Sunday with musicians Shankar Mahadevan and Zakir Hussain's fusion band ‘Shakti’ winning the ‘Best Global Music Album’.

They won the acclaimed international award for their latest album ‘This Moment’.

The official Grammy's X page shared an image where Mahadevan and another band member Ganesh Rajagopalan accepted the award on stage.

"Congrats Best Global Music Album winner - 'This Moment' Shakti. #GRAMMYs," the X post said.

The album was released on June 30 last year.

Tabla maestro Zakir Hussain bags three Grammy awards

Indian tabla icon Zakir Hussain won three awards at the Grammys.

He won the award in Best Global Music Performance, Best Contemporary Instrumental Album and Best Global Music categories.

Two of the awards were won by flautist Rakesh Chaurasia with Hussain.

Los Angeles hosted the 66th Grammy Awards 2024.

Ricky Kej attends Grammys

Ricky Kej on Monday appreciated India's glory at the Grammys after singer Shankar Mahadevan and Tabla maestro Zakir Hussain's band Shakti clinched the prestigious title in the Global Music Album category.

Appreciating the band's success, Kej, who is also a Grammy-award winner, posted on X: "SHAKTI wins a #GRAMMYs #GRAMMYs2024 !!! Through this album 4 brilliant Indian musicians win Grammys!! Just amazing. India is shining in every direction. Shankar Mahadevan, Selvaganesh Vinayakram, Ganesh Rajagopalan, Ustad Zakhir Hussain. Ustad Zakhir Hussain won a second Grammy along with virtuoso flute player Rakesh Chaurasia. Brilliant!!!!"

Kej and social activist Sundeep Bhutoria meet at Grammys

Kej posted a selfie with Indian social activist Sundeep Bhutoria and wrote on X: "With my dear friend @sundeepbhutoria at the Grammy Awards Ceremony in Los Angeles :-) #GRAMMYs @RecordingAcad. What a great night for Indian Music."

Bhutoria described India's success at the Grammys as a big day for the country.
