Kolkata/IBNS: Neeraj Ghaywan’s Hindi film Homebound has been picked as India’s official entry to Oscars 2025.

The Film Federation of India jury members picked Homebound from a list of 24 multilingual films.

The announcement was made by federation chairman and veteran producer-director, N. Chandra.

A 2025 film, Homebound features Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa, Janhvi Kapoor in the lead.

The film follows two childhood friends from rural North India—Mohammed Shoaib (Ishaan Khatter) and Chandan Kumar (Vishal Jethwa)—who dream of becoming police officers in order to escape the social marginalization they face.

It deals with issues like caste, religion, inequality, and societal expectations. Their friendship is tested as they navigate these challenges.

The film was premiered at Cannes Film Festival 2025 in the Un Certain Regard section and was also screened at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
