Los Angeles: Hollywood actor Michael Douglas announced on Friday that he will be playing the role of U.S. Founding Father Benjamin Franklin in a new limited series for Apple.

Douglas made the announcement by posting a 40-second video on his Facebook page.

"How is everybody doing out there? Back to work for me! I will be starring as Benjamin Franklin in a new Apple TV + Limited Series!" he said.

The untitled series is based on the book “A Great Improvisation: Franklin, France, and the Birth of America” by Pulitzer Prize winner Stacy Schiff. Kirk Ellis, the writer behind HBO’s “John Adams” series, will write the show for Apple and serve as an executive producer, reports Variety magazine.

Emmy-winning director Tim Van Patten will direct and executive produce. Douglas will executive produce in addition to starring.
