Los Angeles: Hollywood superstar Brad Pitt is suing his former wife and actress  Angelina Jolie for selling her stake in the French vineyard they bought together, media reports said on Friday.

Brad and Angelina, one of the most talked about couples in Hollywood, purchased a controlling interest in Chateau Miraval in 2008.

They got married there some years later.

Pitt says he and his former wife agreed not to sell their stakes in the venue without the permission of the other, reports BBC.

But Jolie sold her share to a spirits manufacturer owned by a by Russian oligarch, according to the lawsuit, the British media reported.

The legal documents, filed in Los Angeles on Thursday, said Pitt helped ensure the profitability of vineyard, which was "one of the world's most highly regarded producers of rose wine".

Brad and Angelina married in 2014.

Before tying the nuptial knot, they dated for 10 years.

However, Angelina Jolie filed for divorce in 2016.
