The release was previously postponed after the High Court intervened over a financial dispute.
The controversy involves a liability of ₹27.70 crore that 14 Reels Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., a group company of the film’s producer, allegedly owes to Eros International Media Ltd. The pending dues led Eros to seek court action ahead of the December 5 release.
A division bench of Justices S.M. Subramaniam and Kumarappan restrained the film’s release “in any form,” affecting theatrical, digital, and satellite screenings.
In Akhanda 2, Balakrishna reprises his dual roles as Akhanda and Murali Krishna from the 2021 original.
The film also stars Samyuktha Menon, Aadhi Pinisetty, and Harshaali Malhotra. Continuing the spiritual-action theme, Balakrishna plays an “Aghora” with divine powers, battling rising evil forces.
The movie’s music is composed by Thaman S., and early teasers showcase large-scale action sequences and stylised visuals consistent with the franchise’s tone.
