Actor Priya Marathe, known for Pavitra Rishta, dies of cancer at 38 in Mumbai

Mumbai: Television and film actor Priya Marathe, best remembered for her role as Varsha Satish in Zee TV’s Pavitra Rishta, passed away in Mumbai on August 31, 2025.

She was 38 and had been battling cancer for the past year.

Born on April 23, 1987, in Mumbai, Marathe completed her education in the city before entering the entertainment industry. She made her television debut with the Marathi serial Ya Sukhanoya and later appeared in Char Divas Sasuche.

She went on to play Vidya Bali in Balaji Telefilms’ Kasamh Se and participated in the first season of Comedy Circus.

Her portrayal of Jyoti Malhotra in Sony TV’s Bade Acche Lagte Hain (2012) earned her wide recognition. Marathe also featured in shows such as Tu Tithe Me, Bhaage Re Mann, Jayastute, and Bharat Ka Veer Putra – Maharana Pratap.

Apart from television, she acted in the 2008 Hindi film Humne Jeena Seekh Liya and the Marathi movie Ti Ani Itar, directed by Govind Nihalani.

In 2012, she married fellow actor Shantanu Moghe.

Her death is being mourned across the television and film fraternity, where she was admired for her versatility and strong performances.
