
He truly had a heart of gold: Prosenjit Chatterjee mourns Bappi Lahiri's demise
Kolkata/IBNS: Tollywood superstar Prosenjit Chatterjee, who has featured in a number of Bengali film songs sung by late Bappi Lahiri, penned a heartfelt note on the latter's demise.
In an Instagram post, Chatterjee, whose film song by Lahiri 'Chirodini tumi je amar" is still massively popular, wrote, "I can't explain how close Bappi da was. He truly had a heart of gold. Our relationship and work... we have so many memories."
"Stay well Bappi da. All your creations will be immortalised," the veteran actor added.
Lahiri, who was suffering from multiple health issues, died on Wednesday night.
Born as Alokesh Lahiri, he was popularly known as Bappi Lahiri and Bappi Da.
He had delivered major box office successes in Bengali films like Amar Sangee, Asha O Bhalobasha, Aamar Tumi, Amar Prem, Mandira, Badnam, Raktelekha, Priya and so on.
He was popular in the 1980s and 1990s with filmi soundtracks such as Wardat, Disco Dancer, Namak Halaal, Sharaabi, Dance Dance, Commando, Saaheb, Gang Leader, Sailaab.
Bappi Lahiri joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on Jan 31, 2014 to contest the 2014 Lok Sabha election.
He was made a BJP candidate from Srerampur (Lok Sabha constituency) in 2014, but lost to Kalyan Banerjee of All India Trinamool Congress.
Bappi died just days after Lata Mangeshkar passed away.
