Kolkata/UNI: Legendary actor Soumitra Chatterjee is still on ventilator support but the first session of his dialysis went well, and is ready for the second session, said Dr Arindam Kar of Belle Vue Clinic here today.

Dr Kar also said, "He tolerated the haemodialysis very well. It stabilised rather normalised most of his health parameters, i.e. renal functions, urea creatinine, phosphate as well. Blood pressure is now more than 150/90 without any support."

"His first dialysis session went well and he is responding to things by opening his eyes. For the last four days, the Blood pressure is holding on, saturation is 95 pc to 100pc with ventilation support. We will be giving another dialysis session today itself," Dr Kar said.

Still, his haemoglobin has dropped down, and so blood transfusion is given and no external bleeding is observed.

He is breathing well on that and there are no complications as well. All the antibiotics are rescheduled or upgraded according to the sensitivity.

"The neurological team said some improvement has been seen in the health condition but he is still in a critical state and we are giving our best effort. Let’s pray for his recovery."

"Still, now he is very critical but also fighting very strongly according to his age and comorbidities," said Dr Kar.

“He is putting up a very strong fight given his age and comorbidities. The health condition is a little bit stable in comparison to the last 48 hours. We have been able to normalise most of the parameters that went haywire,” Dr Arindam Kar told the media.

One of the most celebrated actors in Bengal, Chatterjee has received many awards and honours, including the Padma Bhushan, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, several national awards, and Sangeet Natak Akademi Tagore Ratna.
