Arindam Basu to make directorial debut with '...that Gift'

Kolkata, Sept 5 (IBNS): Journalist-turned PR professional Arindam Basu will make his directional debut with film '...that Gift'.

Arindam will be part of a four film series delving on similar topics.

'...that Gift' is the story of a day in the life of Sandhya Sanyal, a middleclass woman, who earns as a door-to- door sales agent for a cosmetics and skin care company.

This day is significant for her as on this day her husband Samar, a government employee, gets his first chance to present his project plans to a minister after several of his projects have been rejected at the primary level. This evening they also plan to buy something special for their son Santanu’s birthday who turns 20 in the next 48 hours.

The day begins normally till the time she lands at the doorsteps of her customer Bejan Dastur, a rich spoiled man of resources. This 20 minute short unravels how this brief encounter changes her life forever.

Sandhya’s character will be played by Sreelekha Mitra, Biplab Banerjee plays her husband and newbie Abhi Dey will play her son. Bejan Dastur is played by Arijit Dutta.

Arindam said: "These are actually short stories from my new book, ‘Dirty Dozen and One’. Two of the stories have already been acquired by Director Mahua Chakraborty for her film Amar Bhoi featuring and produced by Rituparna Sengupta."

“I would not have done this short if Sreelekha had not agreed to do this role. Similarly with Arijit Dutta,” he added.

The film is being co-produced by Lace Styles Films and Carpe Diem Communique Pvt. Ltd. Alok Agarwal, Director of Lace Films.
