Goa: Actor Randeep Hooda, who played the titular role in the biographical drama 'Swatantrya Veer Savarkar' and also directed the film, said he had to take it upon himself to put to tell the freesom fighter's real story in the public discourse.

Interacting with the media along with the other team members of the film at the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, Hooda described Savarkar as an ‘unsung hero’ of India.

He likened the production challenges to the struggles faced by Veer Savarkar during India's freedom struggle.

'Swatantrya Veer Savarkar' was showcased as the opening feature of the Indian Panorama section where the team behind the movie reflected on the film’s creative journey and its historical significance.

"Savarkar always wanted India to be militarily strong. Today, our position in the world has significantly improved. This film highlights another aspect of our armed struggle, showcasing how it inspired revolutionaries to take up arms for independence,” Randeep Hooda said.

Actress Anjali Hooda, who played Bhikaji Cama in the film, expressed how her role in the film deepened her understanding of Savarkar's personal life.

“This movie was an eye-opener for me. I hope more such films are made in the future to shed light on our forgotten heroes,” she shared.

Other members of the film’s cast—Jay Patel, Mrinal Dutt and Amit Sial—also attended the press conference.
