Superstar Salman Khan confirms sequel to 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan'

Mumbai/UNI: Bollywood superstar Salman Khan fans can now look forward to a sequel of “Bajrangi Bhaijaan”, with the actor  announcing that a sequel to the hugely popular film is in the works.

Salman made the announcement at RRR’s biggest launch event in Mumbai on Sunday, in the presence of the cast of RRR, Ram Charan, Alia Bhatt, Jr NTR, director SS Rajamouli and filmmaker Karan Johar.

Salman also revealed that Rajamouli’s father Vijayendra Prasad, who had co-written the 2015 film, has already written the script of the sequel.

After Salman’s announcement, filmmaker Karan Johar asked him if it can be considered a formal announcement. “So can we say, this is the official announcement of the film?”, to which Salman said, “Yes, Karan”.

The 2015 Hindi film was directed by Kabir Khan, who co-wrote the film with K. V. Vijayendra Prasad and Parveez Sheikh.

The film was co-produced by Salman Khan and Rockline Venkatesh. It stars Salman Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, and debutante Harshaali Malhotra.

Made on a budget of Rs 90 crore, the film tells the story of Pawan Kumar Chaturvedi, a simple minded devotee of Hanuman, who embarks on a journey to take a mute six-year-old Pakistani girl Munni, back to her hometown in Pakistan, after she accidentally strays into India.

The film became a huge commercial success, grossing Rs 969 crore. It won the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment at the 63rd National Film Awards, and was nominated for four awards at the 61st Filmfare Awards, including Best Film and Best Actor. It won the Filmfare Award for Best Story.

It was also nominated for Best Foreign Film in China's 2015 Douban Film Awards.

“Bajrangi Bhaijaan” received a phenomenal response from the audience in China, releasing in 8,000 screens across the country, according to reports.

It was released in China with the title that translates as ‘Little Lolita Monkey God’.
