Xi Jinping re-elected as Chinese President

Beijing, Mar 17 (IBNS): At the ongoing first session of the 13th National People's Congress, Xi Jinping was on Saturday re-elected as the President of China.

After his re-election, Xi Jinpng took public oath of allegiance to the Constitution in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

He was also elected as the Chairman of the Central Military Commission of the People's Republic of China.

The election took place during the first session of the national legislature.

"This was the first time for a Chinese president to take such an oath upon assuming office," China's Xinhua news agency reported.

During the session,  Wang Qishan was elected as the country's vice president.

As per Xinhua report, he was a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the CPC from 2012 to 2017.
