New York: The United States is trying to monitor the situation at the India and China border over the recent clash between the forces of the neighbouring nations.

"We are closely monitoring the situation broadly regarding border clashes but we are glad to hear that at least in December both sides (India and China) appeared to have disengaged," US State Department Principal Deputy spokesperson Vedant Patel was quoted as saying by ANI on Thursday.

Indian and Chinese troops briefly clashed at the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Arunachal Pradesh recently.

The face-off took place on Dec 9 and led to "minor injuries to a few personnel from both sides".

Following the brief clash, the two sides "immediately disengaged from the area".

The face-off took place at the Tawang Sector of Arunachal Pradesh.

Chinese troops crossed the LAC, which was contested by Indian soldiers in a "firm and resolute manner".
