At least two judges were killed following a shooting incident outside the Iranian Supreme Court's building in Tehran city on Saturday.

According to local media reports, another person was injured in the incident.

In a statement, the Judiciary’s media office identified the victims as Hojjatoleslam Ali Razini, head of Branch 39 of the Supreme Court, and Hojjatoleslam Mohammad Moqiseh, head of Branch 53, IRNA news agency reported.

“This morning, an armed infiltrator in the Supreme Court acted on a pre-planned assassination of two brave judges with a long history of fighting crimes against national security, spies, and terrorism,” the statement read.

The gunman committed suicide immediately after shooting the two judges.

Preliminary investigation showed the gunman was not involved in any case in the Supreme Court nor was he a client of the court’s branches.

The motive behind the attack is still not clear.

Iran's Mehr news agency reported that a bodyguard of one of the judges was also injured in the attack.
