Washington, May 22 (Sputnik/UNI) US President Donald Trump said in a statement that he has selected former Aerospace Corporation Chairwoman Barbara Barrett to be the next US Secretary of the Air Force.

"I am pleased to announce my nomination of Barbara Barrett of Arizona, and former Chairman of the Aerospace Corporation, to be the next Secretary of the Air Force," Trump said via Twitter on Tuesday.

In early March, former Secretary of the Air Force Heather Wilson announced she was leaving her post to become the next president of the University of Texas at El Paso.

Prior to becoming US Secretary of the Air Force, Wilson served as president of the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology since 2013.
