Two California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers were injured after a Tesla operating in Full Self-Driving (FSD) mode crashed into their patrol vehicle in Solano County, California.

According to the CHP, the 22-year-old driver of the Tesla claimed he was asleep when the crash occurred.

The incident took place on Tuesday near Air Base Parkway in Fairfield, when the Tesla, driven by a 22-year-old man from Sacramento, crashed into the rear of a CHP patrol vehicle on eastbound Interstate 80, US media reports said.

Sharing details of the incident on X, the CHP said, “Two Solano CHP officers were seriously injured when a Tesla struck their patrol vehicle on I-80 eastbound, despite flares, cones, and flashing emergency lights.”

According to an ABC News report, the injured officers were taken to a hospital in Fairfield for treatment and were later released. The Tesla driver escaped without injuries.

The CHP also released dashcam footage of the crash on X.

The incident comes as Tesla recently surprised automobile enthusiasts by unveiling its redesigned Roadster, featuring rocket-style thrusters. A demonstration video showed the vehicle leaping over a truck and other vehicles while twisting in mid-air.
