Kabul, Jan 29 (IBNS): A security operation in Afghanistan's Manogi district of eastern Kunar province on Monday left key Taliban commander dead, media reports said.

The incident left two others associates of the Taliban commander also dead.

Abdul Ghani Mosamam, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that security forces conducted the operation in Lichlam area late on Monday night.

He told the Afghanistan-based news agency that the notorious commander, Najmuddin, was killed along with two associates.

He said one of the terrorists was caught alive.

A source, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told the news agency Najmuddin had been a commander of Hizb-i-Islami Afghanistan. Later on, he was appointed as police chief for Kunar.

The Taliban did not comment on the issue so far.
