Moscow/IBNS: Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has been diagnosed with Covid-19, he revealed in a video meeting with President Vladimir Putin aired on the state-run Rossiya 24 television channel Thursday.

According to The Moscow Times, 54-year-old Mishustin has played a leading role in Russia's response to the coronavirus pandemic.

The report said Mishustin has self-isolated himself.

He has stepped back from his work as prime minister, it said. Putin signed a decree to appoint First Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Belousov as acting prime minister.

"I have to observe self-isolation and follow orders of doctors. This is necessary to protect my colleagues," he told Putin, promising to be in constant contact "on all the main issues." reported The Moscow Times.

Russia has reported 1,06,000 Covid-19 positive cases so far with 1073 deaths. At least 11,619 people have recovered.
